Oi tudo bem!
So I'm a real missionary now. Let me explain. First off I have a missionary tan. I even have the watch tan line. Needless to say I'm pretty excited about that. I would also like to point out that I have about every stereotypical missionary story there is so far. We have the eternal investigator, the golden investigator, the gross food you have to eat politely, your crazy people, teaching a preacher, teaching a Jehovah's Witness, teaching a Biblical scholar, getting chased by dogs, teaching Muslims, teaching Hindus, etc. All in two weeks.
First off in two week I have been fed hot dogs by four families. Yeah it's been rough, but I'm sticking it out. One of them was chili dogs and Elder Dearinger had never even heard of a chili dogs before. He said they were "interesting". I drowned mine in chili so I couldn't taste the hot dog. But when you're walking all day and starving you'll eat anything. This week has also been full of knocking doors. I think we totaled up the hours and it came to about a day and a half. We've found quite a few people though. It was such a cool experience. Just yesterday we were going house to house and this guy in his mid 20's told us he'd been praying to know how god wanted him to follow him. We're going back to teach more. I'm not sure how it will end up, but it's was testimony building knowing that every day we pray before we go out and we were an answer to someone's prayer.
This week we are shooting for 60 lessons. It's a lofty goal, but we know that we can do it. For those of you at home. That's 3 times what we're expected to teach. Now this is not to brag it's to show you how good our area is. Right now we are on track. It's going to be tricky though with our upcoming schedule. We have a baptism planned for next week which is exciting. It's next Saturday. I'll probably tell you more about that next week. We went back and helped with horses again last Saturday. Let's just say I'm practically a cowboy now. Yeah I know you're jealous. I would be too. C is coming along and her son is moving in and he's interested too which we are excited about. There are so many people ready for the gospel. We all just have to find them. I never realized this fully before I came out. We all can be better missionaries. and so many people are interested because of examples.
So I'll tell you about D. Now D is the best investigator you can think of. To start off he called us before we'd ever met him and asked to be baptized. There you have it. So we went to teach him and he was already reading the Book of Mormon. He also knew about the law of chastity so he and his girlfriend are getting married so he can be baptized. He didn't know anything about Joseph Smith so we taught him that and it was so spiritual. He told us his life story and let me just tell you it was rough. He never knew his father, his step dad beat him so he was taken by the government, and I could go on. Recently he started attending churches to know which one to join and he came to our church and felt the spirit so strong he knew it was true. I could go on and on about how great D is, but what the point is that there are so many people who are ready. We just need to share the gospel with everyone. Members have the duty to be examples to their friends and it's so much easier for the missionaries when they have referrals to visit.
I've got to say that Elder Dearinger is amazing. I wish you could hear him talk to people. People will talk to him for so long on their doorsteps. I don't know how he does it so well. Hopefully someday Ill have that quality. I'm working hard for it. I wish I could tell you everything that I do and you could just see the miracles I've seen. There is no doubt in my mind that Joseph Smith was a prophet. The Book of Mormon is true and Jesus Christ lives. I have encountered so many questions out here that I'd never even thought of before, but it only strengthens my testimony. We honestly can't answer all of them. That is why faith is the first step to everything. I've been reading around Alma 36 recently. I challenge all of you to read starting with Alma 34. I promise that you will feel the spirit. I love you all and thank you for your support. I hope to hear from you all soon. Eu amo voces e a igreja e verdadeira.
Love you too,
Elder Sudweeks
